Are we afraid to tell others what God has done for us? Do we fear that they might think we are singing our own praises because He has done so many wonderful and amazing things in our lives? Well we couldn’t be more wrong than to remain silent because the Lord deserves our open praise, and worship before all people, and nothing lifts Him higher than to speak of all He has done for us.
When people and countries lose sight of God, or walk away from the truth which is Jesus Christ, do not give up hope on them because just as the Lord’s hands are held out to them all the day long... your arms should be extending the Word of God, and the gospel of Jesus to them as well.
When we are in trouble do we call on God to save us out of desperation, or do we ask for His help so that through His provision, and salvation, we might glorify Him? God’s rescue is not done solely for our benefit, but also to reveal His majesty. When we give to those in need how does it make us feel? The goodness and warmth we experience is only a reflection of what God feels when He answers us in our times of need.
Are we a people who begins our confrontation with trouble by leaning on the Lord for help, but who over time begins to waver in our faith? Are we like the Israelites who trusted in God for their protection in the wilderness only to lose hope when the armies of Pharaoh were approaching, and their backs were against the sea? How steadfast are we, and how firm is our grasp on the promises of our Father?
We say that we love God, and Jesus Christ, but do we truly know what that love should be? We say that God’s love for us is boundless, but can we begin to understand what it means to do anything without limits? O my friends, we say we know these things but until we come face to face with God, and feel the wounds of Christ with our own hands, we are blind, and the mystery will not have been revealed to us.
Are you distraught today? Is your life filled with disappointment, and are the things you once placed great value in being drawn away from you? If you feel morose in this way then you are losing hope in life, and perhaps your faith is under attack as well. Hope in our earthly life, and hope in faith, walk arm in arm with one another, and together they give us an abundance of life. So think on those things that give you hope, and take refreshment in your faith, and life, from them.
To be with God, and Jesus Christ, we must be changed. Laying aside, for a moment, the spiritual transformation we have been undergoing throughout our lives of faith, we are meant to be changed physically as well. This bodily change will not be a lifelong process, but occur in an instant, in a moment, and take place when Jesus returns to claim us. Are we prepared for that instant of indestructible foreverness?
Is our love for God, and the strength of our faith with us always, or do we pick them up and put them down at our convenience? When we are experiencing times of ease, and fair breezes, do we praise our Father, and tell Him how much we love Him, but turn our attention elsewhere, and need a reminder, when we are confronted by trouble? In times of hardship do we ask God “Where are you?” When perhaps the better question is to ask ourselves “Where am I in relation to God?”
Do we proclaim the mystery of the gospel of Jesus to those who would hear? Do we ask those around us to pray for us so that we will have the right words to speak when we do? We wear the armor of God, and the last article described by Paul is the sword, which is prayer in the spirit, but do we ask others to wield that sword for us so that we will receive the words to speak, and do we swing it into action for other disciples as well?
To be judged worthy of a seat at God’s table requires our best, and greatest effort. No small amount of love will win this prize for us; only when we love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength can we receive His pleasure. You see, our God gave us His best, His only begotten Son, and He expects our best response in return.
We run races for exercise, and keep our bodies fit by eating well, and doing those things that are good for us, so that by doing this we might add a few short years to our lives, but when we do spiritual exercises in which our belief is helped, and our faith is strengthened, then we add all of eternity to our lives. The question becomes; which is of more value to us, our godliness, or bodily training?
Has God ever sent you to do His bidding? Did it require that you face a fear that terrifies you, sacrifice something of yourself, or give up your pride by becoming humble before the world as you know it? Occasionally God sends us on a mission that lifts us up, and brings reward and honor to us, but most times we are meant to sacrifice ourselves... or to lay something of down that we have valued.
As true believers in Christ, are we prepared to not only live forever, but to live as the children of God? Can we even imagine the joy that will spring forth as God pours His love out upon us as His sons and daughters? In that moment it will be announced that we have received Jesus as our savior, and the Holy Spirit as our comforter, but even more, that we have overcome sin and death through Jesus. We will then receive what we had only dared to hope for... our acceptance as the children of God.
Do we wave the banner of Christ, and contend for our faith on this spiritual battlefield where we find ourselves engaged? Do we recognize the enemies of our faith that have crept in and are now coming against us? If we are not careful, and don’t enter into the ongoing battle dressed in the full armor of God we may find our souls defeated, and enslaved.
Are we enamored with the pomp and circumstance within our church? Do we make the liturgy we follow more important than the Word of God, or the gospel of Jesus Christ? Sometimes we lose sight of who we really worship as the procession of priests enters the sanctuary, the elements of communion are doled out as if they were a reward, or in some churches, the choir and performers become the focal point of the service. Let’s step back from what we have “always done”, and refocus our praise and worship on God and Jesus alone.
