All in Trusting in God

This morning, the day after I wrote about my encounter with the stock clerk at Publix, I couldn't sleep and rose early to pray. I was drawn out of bed for a very specific prayer... On the day before I had written about a man I met at Publix whose nine year old son was in a life or death battle against cancer. Now, on this the morning after, my prayers are focused on this boy and his family, and this led me to pray about the trust I have that God heals.

We can’t wait on God, or do the other things of faith unless we trust in Him first. How can we believe that our Father will bless us unless we trust Him to be true to His Word? How can we believe in His divinity, and who He says Hr is unless we trust in what He tells us? So, do we trust in Him as we should? When we first came to believe that he was the one true God, and that Jesus Christ was His Son did we trust this to be absolutely true? Or, were we simply saying we believed as if repeating these words would provide us with an insurance policy to be used in case it really was true? Do we trust God, and Jesus, as they have told us to do?

In whom do we trust our lives? We like to say that we have placed our faith in Jesus Christ, that we listen to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, and have placed our trust in God, but then we retreat to our prayer closets and try to dictate the path our life will take. Before we say that this doesn’t describe us I ask that we each do some soul searching. Let’s ask ourselves how often we pray for what we want to happen, and compare the frequency of those prayers with how often we pray “Father, your will, not mine, be done!” We all have things we want to have happen in our lives; new jobs, healing, provision, and every order of blessing, but do we trust in God to give us these things in the best possible way, or do we want Him to do exactly what we want, and to do these things precisely as we have envisioned that they should occur? Who are we really entrusting our lives to?

Who do we confide in? We say we love our spouses and families, but there are things we think, or have done, that we hold back for fear of disappointing them. We say that our friends will stand by us through thick or thin, and yet we withhold things from them that we are afraid might cause us to lose their friendships. However, God already knows who we are, and what we are. We can trust in Him, and Jesus Christ, to hear our deepest thoughts, to know our innermost secrets, and never abandon us... to love us and help us despite our darkest revelations. They are our refuge in the midst of our humanity, and from our dark places they will lead us back into the light.
