We can’t wait on God, or do the other things of faith unless we trust in Him first. How can we believe that our Father will bless us unless we trust Him to be true to His Word? How can we believe in His divinity, and who He says Hr is unless we trust in what He tells us? So, do we trust in Him as we should? When we first came to believe that he was the one true God, and that Jesus Christ was His Son did we trust this to be absolutely true? Or, were we simply saying we believed as if repeating these words would provide us with an insurance policy to be used in case it really was true? Do we trust God, and Jesus, as they have told us to do?
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.”
Psalm 37:5 ESV
By trusting in the Lord He not only acts, but does all the things He has told us that He would do. His promises, and blessings become real to us. But if we don’t trust in God it is like calling Him a liar, and which one of us would be inclined to make a bargain with someone who believed that we had lied to them… that we were liars? No, we honor our promises to those who believe that we are trustworthy, and don’t shake hands with those whose handshake means nothing to them, especially if this is because they think our word means nothing to us.
“O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you!”
Psalm 84:12 ESV
We have all heard the common saying “Don’t make a deal with the devil.”, and it is a saying that contains wisdom. A bargain with someone who may or may not honor their end of the agreement is no agreement at all. So if we don’t trust God then where does any agreement stand that we have attempted to make with Him, and since He is absolutely trustworthy then who is the devil in these dealings?
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.”
Isaiah 26:3-4 ESV
God is true to His Word, and always trustworthy, even if He makes a promise to a sinner. We know that this is true because He sent Jesus to us while we were yet sinners, and He came with the promise of everlasting life if we would only believe.
“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 ESV
The terms of this agreement are twofold… first is that we must believe, and the second is that if we do, then God will have eternal life us.
““For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 ESV
So do we trust in God to uphold His end of this bargain, and the many other promises He makes us? Do we see Him as trustworthy, or a liar? Are we believers, or just toying with the notion? When God promises a blessing He will deliver upon it; do we trust that this is true?
“God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? Behold, I received a command to bless: he has blessed, and I cannot revoke it.”
Numbers 23:19-20 ESV
Prayer:
Father, thank you for being absolutely trustworthy. Thank you Lord for loving us as you do, and for sending your Son Jesus just as you promised. Your Word was truth from before the foundation of the earth, and you bless us, and we trust you in this. You redeem us from sin, and we trust in you for this, and in every promise you have made, we trust in you. Holy, Holy, Holy, are you who made the promise of eternity to us while we were yet sinners, and stand firm on it through the blood of Jesus. We praise you Lord for the smallest of blessings we receive through prayer, and for the life altering blessings you give us as well. Merciful are you whose grace is sufficient for us, and Good are you who saves the lost by their trust, and faith in you. Wash us clean of our sins Father with the blood of Jesus, and quench the thirst of our spirits with the living water that flows from Him. Transform us by our belief, and faith that stands firm in our trust in you. See in us the image of Christ, and judge us worthy of eternity with you.
“Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.”
Proverbs 16:20 ESV
