How and where do we begin our day? Do we begin each one in obedience to the Lord’s call? Do our mornings start in a quiet place with a time of thanksgiving, and seeking the Him through His Word? Are we in the habit of preparing ourselves for another righteous walk, and glorious conversation with Jesus in the day that lies ahead? Moses was called in the morning to come to the mountaintop where he would stand before God, and receive His Commandments… where do we stand as dawn breaks over us in our lives? What do we expect to receive as the new day begins?

How and where do we begin our day? Do we begin each one in obedience to the Lord’s call? Do our mornings start in a quiet place with a time of thanksgiving, and seeking the Him through His Word? What do we expect to receive as the new day begins?
“Be ready by the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself there to me on the top of the mountain.”
Exodus 34:2 ESV
God told Moses to be ready by morning which reminds us that we are meant to spend our nights preparing ourselves as well. We are to sleep and refresh our bodies, let our minds wander into the presence of God in our dreams, pray to clear away the sin of the previous day, and in these ways to put the old day behind us as we ready ourselves to climb up the mountain singing praises each morning…
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Save us, we pray, O Lord! O Lord, we pray, give us success! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! We bless you from the house of the Lord. The Lord is God, and he has made his light to shine upon us. Bind the festal sacrifice with cords, up to the horns of the altar! You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you. Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!”
Psalm 118:24-29 ESV
In the night we refresh ourselves… This is the refreshment that readies us for the coming day, and all it will contain, so that when morning comes, our journey up the mountain we be filled with singing, and we will receive the reassurance of life in the presence of God. It is here that we prepare ourselves to find peace in the breaking dawn. It is on the mountain that our waiting upon the Lord is renewed. It is high above the world that we are strengthened for a new day; and it is here, in the presence of God, that our troubles, sorrows, pains, needs, and desires, that were set aside to make way for our slumber, are picked up again. We pray with the sound of the coming morning, and lay our cares once more at our Father’s feet. We leave our burdens there on a bed of fresh flowers and amidst the scent of new incense, then take upon ourselves the light burden of Jesus.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.””
Matthew 11:28-30 ESV
How and where do we begin our day? Do we anticipate the unending love and mercy of God every morning as we come into His presence refreshed?
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV
Prayer:
Father, thank you for the refreshment we receive from you each night, because it prepares us to reenter your presence in the morning, filled with new vigor, and praising you as we begin every day. Thank you for calling us to meet you on the mountaintop each morning so that our day can truly begin with your hand upon us, and the taste of the body and blood of Christ in our mouth. Holy, Holy, Holy, are you our God who watches over us in the night, and walks with us throughout the day. Praised be your name with the the first words we speak each morning, and thankful are we for every blessing we have, and will, receive from you. Merciful are you who guards our souls in against the night terrors, and who lifts us up bodily each morning. Your grace is sufficient for us, and it flows over us like an unending fountain of life day after day. Help us Father as we climb the mountain each morning, surrounded by our prayers of thanksgiving and praise. Give us strength for the day’s journey that begins with our awakening, and through our faith in Jesus Christ, is never ending. Eternity knows no beginning nor end, and neither does our faithful walk with you. Wash us with the blood of Jesus, and forgive us our sins so that in Christ Jesus our eternal lives will know no end, and our nights, mornings, days, and nights again, will be forevermore without end.
“Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.”
Psalm 143:8 ESV
