God our Healer, and the Author of our Health

11/28/2022

We all know the old saying that time heals all wounds, but as hopeful as that sounds it is not as true as we are asked to believe. In fact, the sole healer of all wounds is God. Time and natural processes might heal a wound to a degree, but it always leaves behind a telltale scar. God, on the other hand, heals us perfectly, and our scars are gone, replaced with the remembrance of the wounds of Christ.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Psalm 147:3 ESV

One cannot consider God and His many virtues without quickly considering the fact that He is our true healer. From the moment of creation He equipped our bodies, minds, and souls with natural ways that they can use to heal themselves, and each one of these acts in an amazing way so that together they not only heal us but keep us healthy. Beyond the natural workings of our body the designer and creator Himself can operate with miraculous and merciful ability. Our belief and faith in God and Jesus Christ can allow them to supercharge our God given ability to heal ourselves, in body, mind, and soul. This is beyond our comprehension, and we call it miraculous.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.”

Psalm 34:18-19 ESV

Health and healing are comprised of incredibly complex and integrated strategies that need one another to function perfectly before true health can be maintained, or returned, and the engine behind all of this is fueled by our spirituality… by God. The unbeliever tries to describe this by using words like love, peace, rest, forgiveness, and such, but these are more than words, they are all characteristics of God… some of them were given to us in measure at creation, and birth, but all of them come from God, and work together to ultimately heal us. So, health, and being healed require more than physical actors to succeed they are fueled by God Himself. Health is one of the good things referred to in this familiar verse:

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

Romans 8:28 ESV

So are we living and being transformed in such a way that allows our spirituality to increase and God to work mightily though His Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ to heal us and leave no scar behind… only the memory of His wounds.

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”

1 Peter 2:24 ESV

Prayer:

Father thank you for healing us to perfection through our belief in you, and faith in Jesus Christ. Thank you for removing our bodily marks, and the scars of past sin; all now forgiven. Help us Father to keep in remembrance the wounds of Jesus that He carries so that we are healed. Holy, Holy, Holy, are you our God who desires us to be healthy and healed of all wounds and ailments. Praised be your name for the healing prayers you answer in the name of Jesus, and for the occasional affliction we might carry as Paul did, to keep us from conceit. Heal us Father, body, soul, mind, and in every way. Mercifully wash us in the blood of Jesus to cleanse us of sin and forgive us of every iniquity… separating us from the scars of sin. Transform us Lord, and judge us not as we are, but as Christ is… perfect. Lift us up, call us your children, and bless us in eternity with you… healed, and the culmination of your good work.

“Remember your word to your servant, in which you have made me hope. This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.”

Psalm 119:49-50 ESV
