When we look at life we know that there is only room for one God, person, or thing at the pinnacle of it. When we look at ourselves we don’t see a Mesa, or a plateau, we see a peak... the spire that is our ultimate point of existence. So what will we place there? What will occupy the highest point in our life, will it be the God of Abraham, Jesus Christ, some created form of mock spirituality, financial success, physical prowess, or another worldly desire? The decision must be made, and the champion of our lives placed at the crest.
“And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.”Colossians 1:17-18 KJV
In a moment of absolute honesty, when you see your reflection and look towards the summit of your life, what will you see there? Will it be something other than Jesus, or God? Will there be a light emanating from the height of your mountain, or something else standing there... perhaps a golden calf, or a statue built to yourself? What will have been your choice?
If we choose wisely, then for a while we should see Jesus Christ the Son of God standing atop our life. We should see our Redeemer, our savior, and the true lamb of God, but as He carries us forth to our final destination there will come a time when He will step down, and yield His place at the summit to none other than our Holy Father Himself. When Jesus has prepared us, and reshaped all those things within us that might supplant Him at the height of our lives; when God has subdued all things, and can Himself utter the words “It is done”, then Jesus will look to Him and and say this child is yours.
“And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.”1 Corinthians 15:28 KJV
At that moment our lives will be complete, and we will take our place beside Jesus at the table of God the Father, to feast forever. At that instant of judgement and affirmation we will begin to worship God in the fullness of Spirit and truth.
“There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”Ephesians 4:4-6 ESV
So what will you choose to crown your life? What sits there today? Have you chosen wisely, and placed eternity upon your head, or something fleeting that will be blown away by the cold wind of death? You can choose but one thing, make it worthy. You can choose but once, make it lasting. You can choose but one god, make it Him who reigns over all, and above all.
Prayer:
Father, I thank you for sitting atop my life, and being the crowning glory that I have sought during my journey; my walk of faith with Jesus. I thank you Father for subduing all those things within me that were not of you, and setting me apart in righteousness, and holiness. I thank you Merciful Father for calling me, and for your Holy Spirit that persists within me when I am faltering; when the mere breezes of sin buffet me like storms. Now, Father, help me stay focused on you through the eyes of Jesus Christ, while my entire self and being is awaiting you to claim them. Come soon Lord Jesus, and Come my Holy God above all. Claim me, that I might sing your praises forever. Seat me at your heavenly table that I might dine alongside Jesus on the sweetness there, and bask in your glory throughout eternity. Holy, Holy, Holy, art though my God, and great is your name! Sit atop my life Lord, crown me with your presence, and hear my praise Gracious Father... now and forever more!
