Bumper Stickers and Prayer

Bumper stickers, and sometimes bumper snickers, we see them everywhere. Some make us think, others make us laugh, occasionally they fill us with introspection, but there are those that disappoint us too. I have heard Pastors comment on them in sermons by warning us not to have Christian bumper stickers on our cars and then lean out the car window shaking our fist (or worse) when someone cuts us off on the interstate. What are we telling the world around us about Jesus, and His impact on our life when we don’t offer them prayer when they are hurting? We are meant to live our faith as Jesus did His, and be representative of it. What are we showing the world through our lives?

Breathing in Creation and Jesus

Everything in our lives points to Jesus. The greatest and the least of our experiences lead us to Him. Saints haven't achieved some higher plane of self-realization... they have simply come to the understanding that everything in life reveals God, and Jesus Christ. Then, in all of this, nothing trumps the embodiment of God's will and grace in The Son! In this realization comes a relationship of incredible closeness.

Witnessing to the Abominable Sinner

As men and women called by God, and sent by Jesus to spread the good news of His Gospel, it is more than disappointing that out of fear we are reluctant to carry this treasure of life to those who need it most. We will readily face hardship and even death to preach the good news from a hillside, but we shy away from engaging directly with those whose sin is repugnant to us, or we feel is an abomination to God. We fear their sin will taint us in some way, bring criticism upon us, or defile us, so by our fear we leave them untouched, and God’s gift undelivered, dooming the most needy to face a sinner’s death. When we look at ourselves, is this who we see?

How am I called to witness?

Whether in the Old Testament or the New, we are told to go out into the world and declare the glory of God, and of Jesus Christ. We are sent to the Gentiles, the heathens, and to every soul that walks the earth but doesn’t yet know Them. Are we doing this today? Are we speaking of faith to our families, searching our communities for the lost, our country for the wayward, and the world for those who have never heard of God, Jesus Christ, and their glory that is contained in the Bible, and the gospel story of Jesus? Are we walking in our homes, and abroad, exercising the power of the Holy Spirit in us to do as we have been commanded?

Paying the Price of Loving One Another with our Life

Once we have come to love those around us as Jesus has commanded us to do, how do we go about showing that love? We say that there is no greater love than to lay down our life for another, but do we understand the full meaning of this verse? There is also another way we can demonstrate our love that actually saves our life, and the lives the ones we love… that is to bring back a sinner from their wandering.

Witness with understanding, and do not be Afraid

When the Lord saves us, delivers us, or redeems us, are we inclined to keep his goodness to ourselves, or do we openly praise Him and tell all who will listen about His mercy? Are we only inclined to lift Him up in the presence of those who need to Believe in Him, and accept Him as their Lord, or do we witness to our fellow believers so that they will be encouraged in their faith? Witnessing to others of our faith, and God’s amazing goodness in our lives fills each ear that hears with a special blessing intended only for their refreshment, encouragement, or motivation in faith. So we should witness openly as a matter of course.
