How many times have we taken what God has asked us to do for Him and after starting to do that thing, made it into what we thought it should be? Perhaps the Lord told us to "Feed this man" and we dutifully did that, but then transformed our call into feeding, clothing, bringing him into our home... well you get the picture. We lost sight of the original vision, the very thing that God had asked us to do. We took what He asked us to do and attempted to improve upon His vision... His will.
This morning I wrap up our contemplation and discussion regarding the ability of man to God's commandments. We have seen that God strengthens us through prayer, faith, and our relationship with him. For our part we need only to seek Him and acknowledge His son Jesus Christ as our savior. He does not force Himself upon us but allows us to decide to worship Him and to obey His law.
How loyal are we to our Lord Jesus Christ? I am inclined to say "absolutely!", but then I catch myself pausing the television on some terrible show filled with violence, and foul language. Am I really serving God faithfully, or do I walk a fine line between righteousness and serving my base human desires?
My devotional reading this morning was titled "Let Us Keep To The Point", and builds on Oswald Chambers' personal challenge of giving "My Utmost for His Highest". It presses the argument that we should yield to God's will always, and in every instance without question. The apostle Paul instructed the Philippians on living in the will of God too as they lived out their lives. He spoke to them of living a life with Jesus and aligning themselves with God's will... without fear of death. Do we do this in our own lives today?
God knows our hearts, and Jesus knows us too, but unless we are given instructions from Them, or the Holy Spirit, we can’t know these things about one another…. Or can we? There are occasions when we are given insight into a person, or situation that there is no way we could have known. This is not accomplished by mind reading, or deductive reasoning, but through the gift of empathy, or seeing into another’s heart, and we are led to know these things so that we can accomplish the will of God.
