Why is it that we call today Good Friday? Why on this day of the flogging, suffering, and crucifixion of Jesus Christ do we choose to place the name Good Friday? Well, the term’s origin isn’t clear, so the original intent isn’t known, but we can surmise its meaning. Let’s discuss what, besides the horror of Jesus’ mistreatment and execution, occurred on this day.
You claim you are a child of the one true God, and you have accepted Jesus Christ as your savior, you may have even been born again in the spirit, but are you really living a spiritual life? Have you crucified your old self, or does that you of the past continue to haunt and dominate who you are? Your answer might be that you pray every day, but heathens can string words together... only when you are living a truly spiritual life, and your old self has been left behind, can you walk spiritually, and pray with the power you have been promised!
Faith, do you desire it, do you seek it, do you accept it? Can you recognize faith when you see it in others? At its inception faith is ethereal in nature and we can’t hold it in our hand, but when we have a touch of it within ourselves we suddenly begin to see evidence of it all around us. When we have accepted faith it can suddenly be measured. So I ask... do you hold a mustard seed in your hand?
God is our creator, and has worked out the means of our redemption, our salvation; Jesus was nailed to the cross, but it was God’s will that placed Him there. Have you picked up your cross to follow Jesus, or are you still waiting on God to say come? Waiting on our Father becomes much easier once we realize that He formed us, saved us, and it will be in His house that we will live forever. But do we know who He is, or do we believe in a mystery?
