Where do we turn to find comfort, rest, and peace of mind in our lives? To regain the peace that the world works so hard to rob from us we need to find the quiet places, and times, when we can take in a deep breath from God, and exhale the foul air of strife, and stress that the dark one tries so hard to blow into our lungs. Jesus teaches us much on this subject, and if we reorder our lives we can find that selfsame peace.
When you are praying, and the Lord is speaking to you concerning His will, what do you say? Whenever God speaks; do you talk over Him? There is a time for us to speak, and a time for us to hush and simply listen. Do you know when to speak up, and when to remain silent in prayer? There is an art to conversation... especially with God.
Do you really know how to wait upon the Lord? Sometimes we are so busy in our lives that we forget what it means to be absolutely still. We forget what it means to quiet our minds and just listen to the breath of the world around us, and for God who moves it with His hand.
When you sit at the feet of Jesus are you teachable? Do you humble yourself and listen intently to every word He says, or are you a know it all, and keep interrupting with your own two cents? Jesus was gentle and humble when He taught, and we are to be this way as His pupils. How do you approach your spiritual instruction? Think about how you enter into your lessons and ask yourself “Am I teachable?”
Do you wake up in the morning with a song of faith in your mind and a melody on your lips? Is it a lyric that only God could ever put together, and you know right away that it is the ballad of your life today? I like to listen to music alone in a quiet place with my earbuds in, and my eyes closed; it moves me. Prayer is meant to be like that... a quiet place, a still about you, the earbuds of prayer carrying Christ’s voice into your ears, and the lyrics of heaven softly ushering you before the throne. Is this how you pray?
