The Spiritual Power of Silence

The moments of our greatest strength are not those in which we lash out at our accusers, or argue against the injustice that faces us, but instead, our greatest strength is demonstrated in our silence, in the absolute confidence we have in God, and what is right in Him. The power of silence has never been more pronounced than during those telling minutes when Jesus faced the chief priests before Pilate… and said nothing. Is our faith this strong, and if not, do we pray for the day when it will be?

Denying Jesus without Saying a Word.

How many times have we disappointed Jesus, or God our Father? How many times have we felt such remorse that it drove us to our prayer closets in deep contrition, and how many of us cry tears of remorse? Peter wept when he realized that not only had he denied Christ, but that Jesus knew this was going to happen even as he was pledging his love and dedication... so great is the love of Jesus for us that he loves us while we are yet sinners, and can see our coming tears, even hearing our contrition as an echo.

Do we pray and hear only silence in return? Are we satisfied to live out our spiritual lives in the silence of God? Well this is not what a faithful soul should expect; our lives should be spent seeking, listening, and obeying the voice of God. When we have become content with silence we have become accustomed to being separated from God, and this should be fearful and torturous to us.

Faith and the Pebble of Belief

Do you fear for your children? Does their strength of faith as opposed to all the sin and evil in this world terrify you? No matter who you are, the love of your children brings you terror for them. Given this, if one of your children had just died and Jesus had miraculously healed them what would be your immediate inclination? Wouldn’t it be to fall at His feet, and then to tell everyone about what He had just done? To make believers of them! Wouldn’t it be to shout to the world that this man Jesus Christ was a miracle worker, and exactly who He said He was? Well what if He told you to keep that amazing miracle silent?
