When we are in a serious dilemma do we find ourselves doubting in God’s ability to help us? When we are surrounded on all sides by a horde who would harm, or destroy us, do we feel lost? Well, fear not because our God is more than capable, and it is our own disbelief that prevents us from from seeing Him clearly, and witnessing His heavenly host that surrounds us... too numerous to count.
How many times have we denied Jesus? Some of us may have denied him with our mouths by saying we have never known Him, but more likely we do so by allowing our actions to speak for us. Or just maybe, we have denied Him by our silence. It is easy to worship and praise God in the midst of saints, but are we tempted to deny Him while in a group of men and women who do not believe, or who gravitate towards what the world offers?
When we first come to know God through Jesus Christ we are like infants, and are yet unprepared to walk fully as grown men and women of faith in our Father’s house. Likewise, Jesus endured His childhood as He grew in body and mind from an infant into manhood. Yet, as a baby, a toddler, a child, and through all of the other phases of growing into adulthood, our father‘s love is complete, and perfect through them all.
Have we prayed for our faith today, and if so, how about the faith of another? Jesus prayed for the faith of Peter when Satan asked for permission to sift him Like wheat, then He went on to tell him that he would deny him three times before the cock crowed. What would have happened to Peter without the prayer of Jesus? What would happen to us, and those we know without our prayers for strengthened faith?
Yesterday was Palm Sunday, and via a live broadcast, my pastor spoke of our Holy Week expectations this year in the face of the Coronavirus Pandemic. Then he went on to lay out our church’s online services this week, and how we would go about celebratIng each of them from our homes given the quarantine we find ourselves under. This is not to be a year like any other we have experienced, but though we are separated from one another, we are not separated from Jesus. This is the year we hit the reset button on our spirituality, and sift it, seeing it for what it should have always been... a deeply personal relationship.
Trusting in God is not always easy, especially in the quiet times after our prayers have left our lips, and before His answer has become apparent to us, but in those hard times, Oh how our faith does grow. When we allow our hearts to lean on God’s strength, and we set aside our own reasoning, while depending solely on the understanding His Holy Spirit, we find our relief, and our strength abounds in His presence.
Sometimes we get absorbed in the trials and tribulations of the world’s daily life, so much so that we not only miss the fullness of joy that comes with our faith, but we almost refuse to allow ourselves the slightest pleasure of it. Have you ever been so convinced of your misery, or perhaps in the fact that you are undeserving of happiness, that you won’t allow yourself to feel the inexplicable joy of faith? Well, you are meant to be joyous, meant to be filled with the glory of God, and to experience the Peace of Christ.
Are you humble, and patient in your spirituality, or do you proudly flaunt your faith before others; quoting scripture as though you were in full command of it? This is a question we should each ask ourselves as we journey along the way of our belief, and while attempting to be truly transformed into a crowning possession of holy righteousness worthy of God.
When you pray for provision, healing, or anything else, are you expecting it to be provided? Do you believe that by asking Jesus to do a thing it will be done? If you don’t believe then how can you possibly expect to receive? Then I ask a second question... do you proclaim Your belief aloud?
Have you ever been so put upon, so set upon, or felt so downtrodden in life that you feared God Himself had abandoned you? What did you do in that time of great fear, sorrow, or suffering? What was the state of your faith at that moment? Were you on the verge of turning away from the Lord, or did you seek Him more fervently? Was your faith waining, or was it surging as you leaned upon it?
Those societies who are unbelievers in Jesus look upon Christianity, and they want to put it to death for the very same sins that they themselves commit every day. They see the sins of those Christian brothers and sisters who are struggling to be perfected, and use them as examples of a failed faith. Yet, they miss the perfect, and true, sacrificial nature of Jesus, and the absolute truth in the grace of God. They lose sight of the fact that though beaten, tortured, and hung on a cross till dead... God’s truth remains firmly truth... Jesus will rise.
What does our Bible look like? Is it a simple black book with words, or ornate with pictures and such? How too is the cross on which we envision Jesus; is it a simple wooden cross, or ornately designed and built; perhaps even cast in gold? How about our faith? Is it simply in the word of God, or have we massaged it, and improved upon it with additions meant to make it easier on us? In short, have we made God our own, rather than simply being His?
Are you sick, lame, blind, pursued by Demons, or in any other way in need of healing? Well if so are you following Jesus and asking Him in faith to heal you? Are you going wherever He goes until your belief has at last reached its peak, and you not only believe He can heal people, but that He is the Son of God, and can heal YOU? No? Well perhaps then you are you like Thomas, and need a sign. Follow Him, pursue Him, and stretch out your hand expectantly towards Him to receive His healing touch.
It is Easter morning, and the tomb is empty, but do you believe that our redeemer lives? This sounds like a ridiculous question to be asking a believer, but it might surprise you to know how many men and women proclaim faith by saying the right things regarding the resurrection of Jesus Christ, but don’t live as if they believe them. They say He lives, but live as if He were dead. Job truly believed, and lived his life as if he did, but the apostles had to be convinced that Jesus had risen... which are you?
How strong is your faith? You might pray for a miracle, but without faith it stalls before it can rise before the throne of God. No prayer is heard and acted upon without the wings of our faith having been attached to it. Are we like Peter in our prayers? Do we begin to walk on water, but look around us, falter in our fear and wavering faith, and then begin to sink?
