All in Aging In Faith

When we read Psalm 37 as a young person we might see images of life through our parent’s eyes, but it is quite different once we get older and experience age, and aging, ourselves. This is a Psalm written by David when he was an old man, and maybe because of that I listen to it all the more attentively these days... having become older myself, and wiser through the years. For the elderly I say have faith, and for the young I say honor your elders.

Are we growing more Intense, and diligent, in our faith with each passing day, or do we approach it like children who become tired with the same toys over time? When we allow ourselves to simply go through the motions of faith, and to lose sight of the immediacy of it, then we can’t possibly experience the fullness of God’s joy, or feel the love that radiates from Calvary. Do we rise each morning in wonder, that is, do we lift our faces towards the heavens thinking that we are a day closer to the coming of Jesus?

Are you of old age, or are you dealing with a father, mother, or someone who is? Do the issues of growing old concern you, or does death frighten you? Well take heart; though our bodies weaken, and our minds become slowed by time, the Lord God is with us in those times, and carries with Him the promises He made to us in our youth. This is the time when the fruit of one’s faith is prepared for harvest, and the glory of God is realized as we yield the juice of life to the press, and give the wine of our lives to the young.

Do you love God with no less intensity, or walk with Jesus with the same vigor as in days gone by, and yet the sense of joy, and satisfaction seems to have waned from your relationship? Do you feel like you are losing the intimacy you once experienced in your faith? Well, do not lose heart because you are no further away from God than you we’re at the height of your zeal... in the days when you first believed.

Affirmation is something we all need from time to time. Do you ever find that you begin to question something that you once felt so certain about? Do you need some time alone with your spouse so that you can rekindle your love, or maybe you feel that the profession you once thought was so perfect for you, might not be after all... you just don’t know? Well, how about your faith; are there times of questioning it as well?
