The Blood of Christ, Fills the Cup of Grace

03/02/2026

Do we have the blood of Jesus on the casings above the doors of our lives? Are our lintels smeared with the blood of the lamb and the promise of eternal life? If we were to walk back in time, and down the streets of Egypt, we would see the very real blood of Passover lambs on the doorways of believers, and if we turned to the Holy Spirit he would reveal to us the spiritual reality of that act; then he would show us the power of the blood of Jesus Christ in our lives and would make tangible to us the promises of God... His grace, forgiveness, and everlasting life.

“And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

Matthew 26:27-28 ESV

In the days of the temple the blood of a bull and a goat was sprinkled on the mercy seat each year on the day of atonement so that the sins of the priests and the people of Israel might be forgiven, but today that practice has been replaced once and for all by the pouring out of Christ’s blood for the many. No further sacrifices are needed, our sin has been washed away, and eternal life secured. John the Baptist announced the coming of Jesus Christ to the world when he said...

“The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

John 1:29 ESV

And in the book of Mark Jesus tells us…

“And he [Jesus] said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.”

Mark 14:24 ESV

This is why the disciples followed Jesus... and why we follow Him today. His is the blood that secures our forgiveness, our salvation, redemption, and our life everlasting. John spoke of this a second time in scripture and the first two disciples of Jesus (Andrew, and Simon Peter) heard what he said and immediately followed after Jesus.

“and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!" The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.”

John 1:36-37 ESV

Interesting enough, Jesus asked them why they were following Him, but received an evasive answer. Do we also avoid answering this question directly? Listen:

“Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, "What are you seeking?" And they said to him, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?"”

John 1:38 ESV

We learn the real reason a bit later in John 1 when Andrew tells Peter...

“He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which means Christ).”

John 1:41 ESV

We do this as well when we first begin following Jesus, we can’t really tell Him fully why we wish to follow because although we know He is the Messiah, and we wish to follow Him for various reasons, we don’t truly understand the entirety of what that means. We don’t yet know the fullness of the power His blood brings to us. The blood Christ is still a mystery waiting to be revealed to us by the Holy Spirit.

The Jews in Egypt smeared blood above their doors and on their doorposts out of faith and in obedience to God, but it wasn’t until Jesus had come that they realized the full meaning of that Passover night, and what was being foretold. Only in Christ was the real significance of the blood and the body of the unblemished lamb shown to them, and only when they had consumed the body of Christ were they able see the symbolism in the bread of communion and understand the importance of preparing for the journey ahead.

“Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats, and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight. “Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it.”

Exodus 12:5-8 ESV

Is there blood on our doorposts and lintels? Are we still waiting for nightfall, or do we already know the reality of this blood that Jesus shed for us? If we are waiting, then we should remain in the house, and not leave until the Lord’s work is done, and the Holy Spirit reveals to us the new day that has dawned.

“For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.”

Exodus 12:12-13 NKJV

Prayer:

Father, I thank you for your Son Jesus Christ, and His blood that has cleansed me, and marked my doorway with the sign of life. I thank you for your Holy Spirit that reveals to me the truth carried in the Cleansing Blood of my Lord Jesus. I cling to the cross, the altar on which my Savior was sacrificed, and I pick up my own cross and carry it within me always. Help me Father to sprinkle the old person I once was with the precious blood of Jesus. Help me to offer my purified self to you, fresh each day, sanctified, and ready for the journey that lies before me. My sins being gone, overcome by the blood of your perfect lamb, and I praise you for the cup of grace that holds it above me. Merciful Father I praise your name and sing of your glory before all men. Holy are you, Father, and Holy is your Son, the precious and perfect Lamb that was slain before the foundation of the world.

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Perfect is He the lamb, and Great my God and Holy Father.

“For you know that it was not with perishable things like silver or gold that you have been ransomed from the worthless way of life handed down to you by your ancestors,  but with the precious blood of the Messiah, like that of a lamb without blemish or defect.”

1 Peter 1:18-19 ISV

Amen!!
