We are inclined to worship the Lord and remind ourselves that He is with us always. It is our natural inclination to do this because we are weak, our lives so fleeting, and we need Him continuously, but how often do we pause and think to ourselves... “I will never abandon my God!”? Do we say this silently in our own minds, or exclaim it LOUDLY to God, the world, and to our children?
“Walk about Zion, go around her, number her towers, consider well her ramparts, go through her citadels, that you may tell the next generation that this is God, our God forever and ever. He will guide us forever.”
Psalms 48:12-14 ESV
As you travel about do you look at all of creation, both those things created by God, and those created by man for the glory of God, and see through tears of overwhelming emotion the eternal and unending Magnificence of Him? Do you find in everything a reflection of His grand and inspired nature? In gazing upon His handiwork do you say “The Lord is with me always!”, and in seeing the cathedrals, and towers that man has built to honor Him do you say “This is my God Who I will never forsake, and who will guide me forever!”? in such moments We should praise him aloud, and be anxious to tell our children of Him, and how they too are to praise Him boldly so that they will see Him just as we see Him. In both His Word, and in all of creation we must teach them to find Him, and experience the tears of awe.
“And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 ESV
To teach we must first understand, so look about yourself today with new eyes, transformed eyes, that see divine creation in all its wonder and awe. Then, when the tears of awe, and joy, begin to overwhelm you, and blur the colors between your words of praise... show them to your children... and children’s children.
“And he lifted up his eyes and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother's son, and said, "Is this your youngest brother, of whom you spoke to me? God be gracious to you, my son!" Then Joseph hurried out, for his compassion grew warm for his brother, and he sought a place to weep. And he entered his chamber and wept there. Then he washed his face and came out. And controlling himself he said, "Serve the food."”
Genesis 43:29-31 ESV
Prayer:
Father, thank you for the grandeur of your creation, and for the inspiration by which you allow us to create structures, art, and such things to glorify you. Thank you Holy Father for your Son Jesus Christ for whom all things are created, and in whom all is held together. Thank you for the awe we find in the beauty and magnificence of your work Lord, and for the tears of awe that overcome us in the emotion of its witness. Holy, Holy, Holy, are you our God who is with us always, and by whose grace we will offer ourselves forever. Great is your creation, and amazing the inspiration you pour into us as we seek to glorify you. Praised be your name Lord, and praised be the name of Jesus who holds us together in creation, and redemption. We worship you Holy Father in word, song, and tears. Hear our hearts Father as they are overcome by all we see, and feel, as we experience your presence. Teach us that we can understand, love us that we will feel, and inspire us so that our children can find you in the midst of our tears of awe.
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
Colossians 1:15-17 ESV
