There is nothing in this world that we can depend on to last forever; our bodies, our minds, the rivers, and even the sun itself will eventually dim and fail, but the promise of God’s eternity that Jesus has brought to us is the one thing that is lasting and true. He who was, and is, and is to come, has prepared a way for us to experience eternal life with God that will never fail, and be available to us forevermore.
“He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name!”
Psalms 111:9 ESV
It is wonderful to know that our future was sealed with God from not just the moment of creation, but before God’s handiwork even began, yes, before He looked at it and first said... “It is good.” We are not just one of the creatures who were placed on earth to inhabit creation, but from its inception were meant to have dominion over it... we were special from before the beginning; well thought out, and provided for, even before the first grain of sand dropped to mark the first passing of time.... and as He loved us then, He loves us now.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love
to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.”
Ephesians 1:3-4, 6 ESV
So we have dominion over a creation that had a beginning, and is meant to know an end, but in His being, Jesus brings us a covenant of eternity, and tells us that by believing in Him we will experience God’s mercy, and grace, and we are to live forever. He conveyed this promise to Martha, the sister of Lazarus, when He said these words...
“Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" She said to him, "Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world."”
John 11:25-27 ESV
Eternity is ours if we will only believe; it is more than a promise in time, but was conceived while all of creation was yet a void, it lived and arose out of the love of God, and continues in it now... and forevermore. The question of eternity hinges on this... are you willing to partake of God’s promise and plan for you? Are you ready to believe in Jesus Christ, acknowledge Him as the Son of God, and obey His commandments? If you are then the everlasting covenant of eternal life is yours, and the realization of God’s love will well up within you as it becomes part and parcel of who you will be forevermore. Are you ready to believe in eternity, and experience the Love that awaits you there? This is the unfailing promise.
“By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”
1 John 4:13-16 ESV
Prayer:
Father, thank you for your Son Jesus who brings us the redemption needed to complete our journey through time, and know your love, and light, for eternity. Thank you for your mercy, but thank you especially for your grace that flows through Jesus, and lifts us once again into your presence... and it is your gift... not by our doing. You who knows the beginning from the end also knows eternity, and had established your covenant with us through Christ long before you created us, or told us of it. Jesus was to become the sacrifice, and cleans us from before time began... and yet you loved us enough that you created the world and placed us in it in spite of His pending suffering, His assumption of our sins, and His death. You knew of His victory, His resurrection, and His ascension from before time began, and your grace was always present in your love which shone through Him. Holy, Holy, Holy, are you our God who has, does, and always will love us. Praised be your name for your covenant of eternity through the grace contained within your love and the being of Jesus; unfailing and true are your promises. All glory is yours Heavenly Father, through your grace, and the love that presents it to us. We worship you now, and always. We look to the heavens for the return of your Son, knowing the truth of His coming, to usher us into eternity with you. Hear us now as we call him Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and shout out “Glory to God on the Highest!”
“He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.”
Revelation 22:20-21 ESV
