I was reading about what is called commonplace religion, that is, religion which is shaped around what is easy, formed around what others say and not by fervent prayer, God's Word, His will, and our own self-denial. Today we live in a feel good society in which people say "if it feels good then it must be good and right." But that isn't what the bible teaches us. We were never meant to shape our own religion, or alter the Word of God, we were never meant to form a commonplace religion that serves our whims.

I awoke on this New Year's Day to what felt like a fresh new beginning, but as I prepared to read my morning devotional and reach out to God in Prayer I had a revelation... Today is not unlike any other day in Christ. I was thrilled and blessed by this realization and His presence. God is indeed with us in His fullness, and remains the same each moment of every day. Whether this day is our first, or our last, He is without change.

Are you bothered and upset when men take the Word of God and twist it to suit their own purposes? Do you feel a sense of betrayal in their actions, and a loss of fidelity? God’s Word is more than a simple account written by man for his amusement, it is God Himself being revealed to us. So why is it that we think that we can treat it like the grass that we trod under our feet, as we disregard its Holy, and proper, use? A lawyer searches and guards the meaning of every one of man’s words when making his defense, yet the theologian often approaches God’s Holy Word by looking for loopholes, or any means he can to cloud its meaning, to gain advantage, a living, or notoriety among men, by justifying sin. Woe be to them.
