I was thrilled by the devotional message I read this morning. In this time of roll your own religion, and with some, an outright disdain for church and assembling with other believers... we are reminded of the importance of togetherness in Hebrews 10, and the impact that our faiths have on each other. Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young wrote a song in the 70s called ‘Teach Your Children Well’, and it speaks of a truth about having a code that we pass on to our children… our code as Christians is our Faith, and our belief in God and Jesus Christ. How do we teach it, and are our religious holidays, like Thanksgiving, a perfect times to do so?

Today I encourage you to read through Romans 12; this is a wonderful chapter that tells us how to live each day as Christians. Among instructions such as feeding the hungry and blessing those who persecute us, there is a short little verse that instructs us to constantly pray during our times of trouble. Praying without ceasing is an important theme, and there is another short verse in 1st Thessalonians that tells us the same thing. This verse in Romans instructs us to “be constant in prayer”, and both are repeated biblical reminders of an important message regarding our prayer life… live in constant prayer.

When we look at our children, what do we see, and how do we see it? We look on them with our eyes, and see their physical characteristics, we observe their actions, and come to know their character by studying them with our minds. We go further, and see their heart through the eyes of our own, and come to know their love as it mixes with ours and grows, but there is one other way we should look at our children... one that many neglect, we should see them spiritually.
