Do we share our thoughts on faith and prayer with others? I have a very dear friend (Chuck Savage) who, years ago, received the very first devotional message I ever wrote. As a matter of fact he was the inspiration for them as we read “The Power of Prayer” by E. M. Bounds together. We were friends, and had been communicating regularly and praying together long before that, but in 2016 I found myself writing a devotional message to him that he shared with his family and friends. Since then I have written years of daily devotionals and the Lord has shared them openly with the world, but as you know, this year I have been rewriting that first year’s messages, and sharing them with this now wider audience of readers. It is important that we share our journey of faith with one another, because it is tantamount to sharing the gospel as it lives itself out in our own modern day lives.

What does it mean to be yoked with Jesus? This is our concentration for the day. Will we find a life of leisure, hardship, joy, or will it be suffering? What will this life we are living mean to us spiritually and physically? When we read the scripture in which Jesus invites us to become yoked with Him, we hear descriptions that sound appealing... restful, gentle, easy, and light... let's read it again:

As Christians we believe in God, and have faith in Jesus Christ His Son. We also work at behaving as Jesus did in our own lives, we love our neighbors, feed the hungry, visit the sick, and many other things that we have learned through the study of the gospels, but there might be one lesson that is particularly hard for us… sharing what we have. As hard as this might be for some of us to do it is something that is pleasing to God. When the occasion presents itself to do good, do we also share what we have been given.

As Christians we should be busily seeking a deeper understanding of Jesus Christ, and through Him, enjoying more intimate talks with God. In this way God will whisper to us, call us into His service, and reveal mysteries about Himself to us. We will have uplifting morning walks with Him, but often we will hear His voice in the dark of night, or while wandering in various wildernesses. There is no substitute for spending time in these challenging, quiet, solitary, and often painful, places with Him. Once we have been there, and He has confided in us, spoken of His will, or has otherwise blessed us with some revelation, it is our duty to shout it from the rooftops. Are we doing this, or are we hoarding what God has spoken to us in the hard times, quiet times, or the the times of trial and suffering? Are we quick to share the joys, but tight lipped about the more serious conversations we have? Our faith is not all about dancing and singing; we are meant to have the hard, difficult, and serious conversations as well.
