When someone is baptized, and the Holy Spirit comes over them, three things occur. They are given gifts, a calling(s), and they will begin to behave in a new and wonderful way. Gifts, service, and activities, these identify them, and set them apart, placing them on a course that God has willed for them even before their feet became wet in the waters of baptism, or they took their first breath as a child of God.
Being true to the Word of God involves dealing gently with those who we come in contact with, especially as we spread the good news of Christ's love and sacrifice. This will be our concentration this morning; how we are to turn the heart of a fallen or failing soul without losing the patient in the process.
How do we pray when we're broken? What do we pray for when we have nothing left, and our life is a shambles? How do we lift our spirits high enough that we can face God with our desires? We are often embarrassed when we have totally failed in life; we cover ourselves in leaves and hide as Adam and Eve did. Is that really what we should do? Is our faith that shallow? Do we believe that God has given us up to our despair?
