When we are called by God do we respond with reservation in our voices? Do we tremble as we step hesitantly forward? Or does our fear prohibit us from stepping forward at all? These are the things we will contemplate this morning. In order to gauge our own willingness to serve God with total confidence in His provision, we only need to look at the life of Jesus. He chose to live a pauper’s life of little and thus had nothing as He hung dying on the cross… not even His clothes. Yet throughout His life God provided for Him... He sent the Magi with gifts that might sustain Him in His youth, and this was only the beginning of God's providing for Him. Jesus received only those things He needed, when He needed them, and He endured this poverty and suffering so that we too might receive riches in glory.

Are we oblivious to the spiritual dangers that surround us each day? Are we like a tiny fly that at any moment might be ensnared by an unseen web and consumed by its stealthy owner? As the children of God we are protected from many dangers, but that doesn’t mean that they are not there, nor that Satan has ceased to roar as he prowls about the world; no, he still desires to devour our souls. The questions becomes these…Are we vigilant, and watchful? Do we lean into the Lord our God for His protection and deliverance, and is His Word our strength?

As Christians we need to behave different from the worldly, and in times of joy, or trouble, we should always trust in the Lord our God, and rejoice in the company of fellow Saints who follow Jesus. Those in the world will turn to other men when they are in trouble, and look to their kings and governments to provide for them, and feed them, when they are hungry, but ungodly men who hold out one hand with food or help, will extend the other for payment, and those who celebrate in the world, do so with the unbelieving who drink to excess, revel in sexual sin, and sing songs espousing lies against God, Jesus, and Their commandments.
