Are you being tempted with Jesus Christ even today? In that temptation do you continue following Him, or do you turn away from Him and leave? This is a question Jesus asked His disciples at the last supper, and which is still valid today. Let me ask you one more question... when we give into our temptations are we saddling and shaming Jesus with our sin again?
When we are lifted up and standing in that spiritual high place with Jesus don’t we want to stay there forever? When we are feeling the electric thrill of faith coursing through us and every hair on our body has risen as if in unison to the breeze of God's breath, don’t we want to remain in that euphoric state always? Well of course the answer is yes, but that is not what we are meant to do. God has more for us to do.
Are we willing to abandon ourselves to Jesus Christ? Can we put down our own self-interests and pick up the cross? If we can't answer "Yes" to these two questions then we are distanced from Him, and at best, we are onlookers in the audience as Jesus teaches, and not disciples that follow Him wherever He leads...
Placing our relationship with Jesus above all others in our life; is this something that we are willing, or able, to do? Could you walk away from home and family if Jesus asked you to follow Him, and said “I will make you fishers of men."? You might do so if you had nothing there to live for, but what if you had a wonderful family, a life filled with happiness and wealth? What if you were living in complete contentment… would you still leave it all behind and go?
When was the last time that you instantly dropped everything you were doing and rushed to see something, or someone? Have you ever abandoned everything you owned to pursue a dream, or the hope in something? How about your faith?
Although we know Jesus for His love and mercy, and are overcome by the thought of His suffering and death for us, there was a time in which He was preparing to do battle with the sins of the world, and at that time even His disciples were amazed and afraid. At that moment Jesus was like us... struggling with a determination to defeat sin.
