The spirit of rebellion against God's Commandments is a rejection of His authority, however, God's grace will provide us with the strength we need to keep them. This was the subject of my devotional reading this morning. Do we rest on the Sabbath? On the seventh day do we lay down our instruments of labor, close our businesses, and rest as our God rested, or do we look for excuses to disobey? On the Sabbath we aren’t meant to rest from life, but from our works. We don’t cease worship or abandon those things we have built or created, no, we simply do as God did… we rest following the completion of our labor. We don’t gather herds, build homes, or prepare the dead, but we still tend to them.

What do we want to be written about us, to be recorded in the book of remembrance? Will what is found there speak of our faith, Jesus Christ, our righteousness, and our fear of God? Will these words recall our obedience, and the spiritual events which have made us holy, and worthy of eternity? Will what is detailed there speak of how our name is also recorded in the Lamb’s book of life?

Do we live in the fear of failing to adhere to the old written law, or have we grasped hold of the new message of Christ, that is... we are to live in the hope and love of God by serving Him in the way of the Spirit? Woe are we who depend on our own abilities by attempting to follow the letters of the law rather than by partaking of God’s grace through Jesus Christ who has fulfilled the law, and through whom we are now the children of God.
