I read a devotional message titled "The World Turned Upside-Down" and it spoke of those in the faith whose walk with God allowed them to change the world in a mighty way. Of course when I read those words I immediately thought of Jesus who changed the Jewish faith, and all of mankind forever through his fulfillment of prophesy and the law. He removed the stain and hopelessness of sin once and for all, conquered death, and provided an avenue by which all mankind could come before God... sin free, righteous and holy.

This morning we renew ourselves in studying the fruit of prayer. As we read today’s scripture verse in which Jesus reminds his disciples that they did not chose Him first, but that He chose, and ordained them, we are told that their purpose is to bear fruit for the kingdom of God and that in this endeavor they should pray and receive whatsoever they ask. When we pray during our daily prayers do we consider these words of Christ, or do we simply dwell on being given whatever it is we desire at the moment? Are we bringing forth fruit for the kingdom or simply wanting to partake of it?

Do you look back at your life of faith with regret? Do you look down and feel like a failure because you weren’t a Billy Graham, or haven’t made some great theological impact? This happens to pastors, missionaries, and church workers, quite often. But how about those of us who are lay people, the everyday Christians and parishioners? Do we think that we have let Jesus down because we haven’t been able to contribute a huge amount of money to the church, sit on the board, or head up a committee? Well let’s stop right there!! We are viewing our worth through worldly eyes.

What does it mean to "seek first the kingdom of God?" Some believe this means that we are to seek God totally and that all else will miraculously be provided. Then there are those who feel it means to seek Him first and foremost, but to continue living the life we currently live using His commandments as a guide. Then, there are also those who think it is alright to live without any change whatsoever, and to insert God into the cracks of their existing life as a stop-gap when trouble arises. Which of these are we, or do we seek Him in some other contrived way? How is it that we seek Him?
