Has God called you to Himself, or is He calling you right now? By virtue of the fact that you have decided to read this devotional lesson I would say He has. Maybe you thought you were choosing Him, but the fact is, He has chosen you. Does this thought surprise you, or even frighten you? Are you uneasy with the thought that God has pursued and chosen you to do His will? Do you feel ready, or worthy?

This morning I contemplate our being chosen by God for a life and relationship with Jesus; even as much as we ourselves choose to live that life and love our Lord. I think about Saul becoming Paul and his more intense selection by Jesus. After Saul had been struck down in the midst of his noon day prayers, and blinded, he was told to go into Jerusalem and wait there for instructions. Are we chosen, are we humbled, or do we obey, and go humbly without struggling to meet Him?

Do we think that we come to know Jesus because of some accident, or happenstance? Perhaps we think that we sought Him out, and that it was by our own doing, and will, but none of these are true... we come to Him by divine providence. We know Him because God first loved us and has a perfect plan for our lives. We are given into the Hands of Jesus to be redeemed, and made righteous.

Jesus calls our name, but do we hear Him, and do we respond to His call? Those who recognize His voice, and know who He is will most certainly respond to Him. Some worry that they will not hear, others fret over whether He will call them at all, but all those that He calls will recognize Him, so there is one question we alone must answer... will we choose to join His flock by obediently following His call?
