We concentrate on the fact that we have all sinned, and are sinners, but in order to be transformed we need to redirect our focus. Jesus died to sin once and for all, and as we strive to be like Him we must also die that same death, and consider ourselves dead to sin. Jesus didn’t die just to give us a topical treatment for sin, that we apply every time we sin, no, he died to provide us with a lasting cure. Are you using the Cross as a Band-Aid that you apply to each wound of sin, or as a vaccination against sin in your life?

Social distancing versus physical distancing, can we be separated from each other without being absent from one another, and maintain our church relationships in the face of a Pandemic that forces us to remain physically apart for a long period of time? These are things that we as Christians need to realize are not new to us, or that we aspire to, but are part of our faith, and as a matter of fact are core to it. John tells us that we have never seen God, but He Abides in us, and that Jesus is in Heaven, but will return.

It is common to hear the expression “walking in faith”, but what does that mean to us? Is walking in faith like an evening stroll after dinner, or a morning exercise before we begin our day? Is it a few minutes each day spent in prayer, or perhaps carving out an hour at the local soup kitchen to serve a meal? If this is our idea of walking by faith then we have simply dipped a spoon into the boiling pot for a taste, when we should have received the nourishment of a full bowl.

Have you sought after the blessing of Pentecost and yet it has eluded you? Have you prayed, wept, and pleaded for the Holy Spirit to reveal himself in you through tongues or other gifts... yet you feel unfulfilled? Or, maybe, you suddenly feel separated from the Spirit. When this happens it is not necessarily that you are unworthy, or no longer the child of God, but that the Lord has a lesson for you that can only come by a continued and determined seeking within yourself.

You have accepted Jesus as your savior, and you have separated yourself from the sinful life you once led, but are you righteous? More than that, are you Holy? When asked, many Christians will define holy as being dedicated, or separated, to God, but this is only part of the equation... it also means for His use, righteous, and divine. These are not qualities that are part of separation, but these are the things that fill us once we have been set apart, emptied, and purified for His use.

As a believer we are set apart for God’s use, but what about our spouse, and our children? Does God have a plan for them, and does it involve us? Well, whenever something is made holy, God has a purpose and a plan for it. This is true of us as well, and especially includes our role as it pertains to an unbelieving spouse... and our children. The holiness with which we are painted, paints our families with the same color so that we will all be covered by it, and thus we bring the hope of our faith into the household. Salvation enters boldly with us through the front door.
