It is important that we not let our faith become routine, or mundane. When everything is good, and the challenges are few it is easy to slip into that place where we take God for granted, and where what once was exciting has become normal. We never want to lose our sense of awe, or sight of the glory, that we find in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. When waking up each morning to the newness of God we don’t want to feel like it is just another day!
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV
If this happens then we need our spirits renewed, we need to move about in service to the Lord so that we are jostled like a snow globe, and the snow will begin falling majestically over the scene of our faith again. Have we allowed the snow to settle within the snow globes of our faith, and do we need to be turned upside down and set right again, or, heaven forbid, to be shaken so that our faith will be reinvigorated?
“Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:30-31 ESV
When we first believed in Jesus our faith was exciting, and we listened intently for the voice of the Lord, and it was fresh and new each time we heard it, but have we grown accustomed to its sound over the years, and have the goose bumps that once rose up whenever we were touched by His hand stopped rising? If this is so then we need to refresh our faith by immersing ourselves once more in God’s Word, and renewing ourselves in the gospel of Jesus. We need to ask that we be used in fresh new ways that will keep the flakes within our spiritual snow globes floating over the heavenly scene inside that we once stared at with such amazement and wonder…. Are we in need of a good shake, or do we wake up each day refreshed?
“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 ESV
Prayer:
Father, thank you for being new in your love, and all that you are, every morning. Thank you for your Son Jesus who has taught us how to keep our faith strong each day as we perform your will, and for your Holy Spirit who keeps the tongues of fire burning over us… and all of your spiritual gifts alive in us. Help us Father to be spiritually refreshed in you each day, and never let the awe we have for you fade away. Holy, Holy, Holy, are you our God who never grows old, and who thrills our souls for all eternity. May our joy and peace never fade away, and remain forever fresh in you. Let our desire to be in your presence never grow old, nor our strength become weary, as we walk the paths of righteousness together with you. Praised be your name every morning when we rise up giving thanks to you for your blessings. Praised be your name for the days of peaceful worship that settle us in our faith, and for the days of trouble that cause us to seek you all the more as we are shaken and made to search for your help. Wash us clean in the blood of your Son Jesus, and cover us in His purity, then dress us in white robes as we stand before you in judgement. Call us worthy in Him, and take pleasure in us as you call us your children. Seat us eternally before you Father, and thrill our souls as we praise you forevermore.
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24 ESV
