Our Faith that lifts us above the Possible

08/31/2022

We think that we know what our bodies are capable of doing, but do we really? What we actually know is what our physical bodies can do by themselves, and without the help of our faith in God. Jesus died on the cross, and by all the laws of nature that should have been the end, but it wasn’t; He rose from the grave. Peter walked on the water when Jesus called to him, but we all know that it is impossible for a man to do that… or is it? As long as Peter trusted in his faith he did the physically impossible, but when his faith ceased to make walking on the water real… he sank. What do we believe our bodies are capable of? Can we rise from the dead, walk on water, or perhaps enter a room by passing through its walls? Do we see our bodies, and Jesus, through the spiritual eyes of our faith, or are we limited to the physical eyes of Thomas?

“Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.””

‭‭John‬ ‭20:29‬ ‭ESV‬‬

What is it that we wish we could do that the world says is impossible for us? Maybe we would like to fly like a bird, breathe underwater like fish, build the most beautiful buildings, make heavenly music, walk across Antarctica without feeling the cold, or to believe so perfectly in Jesus and God that we can do all of these things because of our faith. Peter’s fear, and doubt, undid him as he walked on the water, and our own imperfect faith will do the same to us… without believing with all our hearts, souls, and minds then we are dead when we die, drown when we attempt to walk on water, and never leave the ground when we attempt to fly. Though nothing should be impossible for us, our lack of faith limits us, and we experience the world as the Apostle Thomas did before he placed his hand into the side of Jesus. Remember when at first he said…

“So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.””

‭‭John‬ ‭20:25‬ ‭ESV‬‬

What are our bodies capable of doing today? When we are called to feed the hungry do we believe it is possible? When the Lord sends us out to deliver the good news of his gospel do we have the faith required to go? Are we with God and capable as believers to do the impossible, or are our feet limited to walking as the lesser beings of the world.

“But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.””

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭19:26‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Prayer:

Father, thank you for giving us the ability to do the impossible, and for helping us in our unbelief. Thank you for growing us in our faith, so that we can do all things. Lord, open our eyes to the greater lives you desire us to live, and to the fullness that our faith in you brings. Holy, Holy, Holy, are you our God in whom there are no worldly limitations. Praised be your name for every miracle you ask us to perform, and for giving us the ability to perform them, so that you will be glorified. Merciful are you who forgives, heals, defends, and leads us into righteousness. You have poured out your grace upon us through Jesus Christ, and for this we are profoundly thankful. Your love for us is never ending, and for this we love you in return, and place our faith in you above all things. Wash us in the blood of Jesus, and cleanse us of our sins. Make us worthy of eternity with you, and do not judge us to be this way because of our own worthiness, but by that of Your Son Jesus who abides within us. Raise us from the dead as you did Him, and lift us into the sky on the same wings that lifted Him. Seat us before you Father, and feed us the manna of your Word forevermore. Holy, Holy, Holy, are you our God who was, and is, and is to come… you are our God, our Father, and our loving Abba, always.
