Seeing Him who is Invisible

07/24/2022

Moses endured by seeing Him who is invisible, can we say the same thing regarding our faith? Is God so real and tangible to us that we can see Him all about us? When we open our eyes in the morning, and thank Him for the blessings to come, is He real to us? When we pray our morning prayers do we look into His eyes? And, even before our feet touch the floor, can our ears hear the voice of Jesus as He intercedes for us? Seeing is the process of our eyes gathering the reflection of light from the things about us, and our brain transforming them into an image. Do we see God in this way? Do our eyes gather Him in because He is light, and do we see Jesus because He is light too, or do they both remain invisible to us? Do our minds block what they should be seeing clearly? Is our faith correctly gathering the light of God, and of Jesus Christ and transforming it into their images for us to see?

“By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:27‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Years ago, when I first saw the pictures from the Hubble Telescope, I was nearly overcome with emotion as I looked at the magnificent shapes and colors, but then I found out that Hubble only saw in black and white. I read that a computer takes the data points and colorizes them based largely on the imagination of those who wrote the programs that analyze this data. In fact, the images we saw were as much art and conjecture as science… we were being presented images that were seen largely in the mind of a scientist somewhere. Our minds do a similar thing with the light that our eyes gather in using their millions of cells called cones and rods, and then it is formed by our minds into the images we see. But, our eyes have been formed, and our minds have been created (programmed), by God Himself.

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us—”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭1:1-2‬ ‭ESV‬‬

So God is light…

“This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭1:5-6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

And Jesus is light too…

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.””

‭‭John‬ ‭8:12‬ ‭ESV‬‬

And, in this way, we are able to see all things illuminated by their divine light as it shines on, and reflects off of, God’s amazing creation. It is in this way that we can also see them as clearly as we see everything about us, but first we must want to see the invisible as Moses did. We need to ask ourselves how it is that we wish to endure. Will we see only the world, or will our eyes be opened, and our minds allow us to envision God, Jesus, and all the divinity contained in Heaven?

““Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Prayer:

Father, thank you for being with us always, and sending your Son Jesus to live, suffer, and die to redeem us from sin, thus purifying our hearts. Thank you for allowing us to see you in everything about us, because all of creation shouts your name. Help us Lord to resist the worship of your creation, and to see it only for what it is… evidence of you. Help us further Father to see only truth, and to resist transforming what you reveal to us, the truth we see, into what we desire it to be. Holy, Holy, Holy, are you our God who created all things, and reveals your glory to us through them; showing us your nature by our sight, and the eyes of our faith. Praised be your name for being real to us every day, as we thank you for your blessings, pray to you, walk with you, and answer your calls. Merciful are you who sent Jesus to redeem us so that we would be cleansed of sin, and for your Holy Spirit who gives us confidence in your Word, and the ability to realize, and see, you in our hearts, minds, and spirits. Your grace pours over us Father, as you pour it from its vessel, Jesus, and as it runs through us, we feel your warmth, and presence in our lives. We see you in this way, and look into your eyes to find ourselves reflected there… made visible by your Holy light, and the light of Jesus. Find us worthy Father, seeing the transformation that Jesus has completed in us. Let us be pure before you, and seat us where we can bask in your light forevermore.

“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:20-23‬ ‭ESV‬‬
