As we dwell on the Word of the Lord we are made to pause in awe, and with raised hands declare, in tears, His greatness. O the wonder of who He is. O the grandeur of His creation. O how our Souls are thrilled by knowing the least of His thoughts, and our hearts warmed beyond measure by the slightest touch of His hand. Do you search God’s Holy Word for a glimpse of Him? Do you see the creator in all of His creation, and Come to know anything about Him?
“How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!”
Psalm 139:17 ESV
It happens when we visit the seashore, and as the sun rises over the blue waters, we are suddenly overcome by the glimpse we have of the creator at that moment. When we first look up at the Majestic Mountains, and feel how small we are, our eyes fill with tears and we are made to worship Him. On witnessing the birth of a child the pain of childbirth is suddenly insignificant in the presence of the miracle that God presents us at that moment, and we are moved again to tears; made to be in awe of His complexity. Each time that God reveals Himself to us we fall to our knees before Him, and whether we are just nodding off to sleep, dreaming of the day’s revelation, or just opening our eyes to a new morning, He is always there, precious in all His thoughts, splendid beyond measure, and His revelations are too numerous to count.
“If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.”
Psalm 139:18 ESV
It is hard to imagine how one could travel this world, and see all that there is, without coming to know God. How could a hard heart remain separated from Him in the presence of such amazing evidence of who He is, and how could the tears that flow when viewing such beauty, majesty, and awe, be explained in any other way than our soul’s encounter with the divine?
Jesus wandered, and fasted, for forty days in the wilderness after John baptized Him, but how many reminders of His Father did He witness along the way? How many sunrises, sunsets, intricately composed landscapes, did He behold? What encouragement that must have been as He walked, and prayed. Can we imagine a more powerful way to prepare for the temptation that awaited Him?
“And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.””
Matthew 4:2-3 ESV
A soul that is lost to the truth in God’s Word, and is not enlightened by the evidence of Him we find in the world around us, is pitifully hard indeed. To deny the existence of God when our hearts are so moved, is incomprehensible, but if one hears the gospel of Jesus Christ, and still resists... well that soul is to be pitied indeed.
“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?”
Matthew 16:26 ESV
So as believers, how much more should we search for a glimpse into the heart and nature of God in His Word, and how much more of Him should be revealed to our open eyes as we travel through His creation? In all things we should find witness of Him... the good, and the bad, on a pleasant summer morning, or in the midst of a raging winter storm. In all things concerning Him, and Jesus, our searching fingers should find the hem of Christ’s robe, the wound in His side, and the holes through His hands, and the wonder of God.
“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”
Hebrews 11:6 ESV
Prayer:
Father, thank you for the constant reminders of you that I find every day, and in all that I encounter in life... the wealth in your Holy Word, the wonders in the stars and skies above, the ground beneath my feet that is rich with all manner of life, and the waters that flow round about me; teaming with fish, and creatures innumerable. Holy, Holy, Holy, are you my God who knows no bounds, and whose presence is witnessed by all things great and small. Praised be your name for the welling up of my heart at a mere glimpse of you. Great are you in the splendor of creation, and gracious are you to allow me to find you in it. All things speak to your glory, and shout of your presence, and if we were made to be silent the rocks themselves would sing of your glory, and grace. Merciful are you Father to place such reminders of you before us, and to lead us to you so wonderfully through your Son Jesus Christ. Your Word, your Son, and all you have created... let none of these be lost on me, and may they all serve to bring me to righteousness as I stand washed by the blood of Jesus before you on the day of my judgement. Pour out your grace upon me Father, and seat me before you in heaven, where I can worship you forevermore, and witness your nature all the more.
“Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all deeps, fire and hail, snow and mist, stormy wind fulfilling his word! Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars! Beasts and all livestock, creeping things and flying birds! Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all rulers of the earth! Young men and maidens together, old men and children! Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his majesty is above earth and heaven.”
Psalm 148:7-13 ESV
